HOLLAND - 'One Man. Three Boards.' On the left Rob's Caribbean Surfcenter owner Jack van der Laan shaking hands with Ameland's Hans Kienstra. Triggered by our 'One Man. One Board.' concept Hans decided is was time to trade in his collection of 4 yellow F2's for the newest models from Peter's hands. Despite our promise of an unusual broad range of use of each of our X-series boards, Hans took no risk and ordered a X75 for shredding Northsea waves, a X95 for the 'in-between-days' plus a X135 for cruising around with his 8,1. Needless to say we're very happy to have such a loyal Thommen fan and we wish Hans years of fun on his new silver sticks! Visit Rob's Caribbean on http://www.surfcenter.nl

| (jan 2004) Sjoerd Kok; a Dutch windsurfer enjoying the Danish live and waves, shares his experiences. | |

Looking for a successor of my 73 litre waveboard, I was very keen on T1’s X65 when I witnessed Peter Volwater taking the Soulwave. The day after I purchased the board I sailed with a 5.3 on my new homespot (Klitmoller, DK) and I was positively surprised how easy my Manic sailed on such a small board. The first little jumps I could really feel the board is fairly short – for sure this gives you way more control in the air compared to a traditional wave shape. Also the boards upwind abilities amazed me. The wind was a few degrees onshore, a possible ‘bummer’ were my first thoughts. Measuring by the way I enjoyed myself out there, it was not a bummer at all! On frontside bottomturns, you don’t need all that much of speed or sailpressure to maintain speed on the wavetop. Playing the wave you just lean into the turn and the board will swing effortlessly into it’s bottom underneath you! 5 Days later we had ‘the Klitmoller day of the year’, sailing solid waves in side-offshore conditions. Time to test the board when the ride gets fast. The wind freshened to good 4.0 conditions and the waves rose to proper 2 meter sets. Basically your perfect windsurfing conditions. The board does not only handle a lot of speed down the line, but to my big surprise I was now able to surf really close to the wave. This board turns soooo tight and smooth. Really felt like I was on surfboard! I remember making some hefty wipe outs, I found myself more and more in the critical sections of the wave – basically positions where I could never go before. Later I got way overpowered on my 4.0 and the waves grew to about logo high (still peeling over the reef, though). I got blown out bottom turns most of the time, but if I was able to release some sail pressure, the board still made tight turns. My sail size was the limit, the board wasn’t! The board has an incredible range: from 5.3 to 4.0 and I’m convinced it goes well below this – unfortunately winter hasn’t been too generous here in Denmark. I will end my compliments to Peter Thommen for another job well done with a recommendation to people who are considering to buying an X-series board: don’t be afraid to take one size smaller than you’re used to, you’ll be stunned by its planning abilities and its drive on the wave. Cheers! Sjoerd Kok (Denmark) |

Hello Bruno Considering the wind ranges I would go for X75 and X95 or just go for an X85 and do it all with one board... Peter |
